 Principium Program

The Principium Program is designed to be a foundational year for students preparing for the Guild or similar classical high school programs. It will build the fundamental skills that will help enrich their high school experience. The Principium Program will have two tracks: English and mathematics. Students may enroll in one or both.

English | The English component will focus on English grammar and usage, including the parts of speech, phrases and clauses, subject and predicate, punctuation, and capitalization. The goal is to learn to write clear, well-supported paragraphs as a preparation for the high school essay . In addition, students will read shorter selections from good books to gain facility in critical, mature reading.

Mathematics | The Math component will focus on learning and applying basic algebraic methods to translating, simplifying and solving various types of algebraic expressions and equations. Students will learn to multiply, divide and factor polynomials; graph and interpret linear and quadratic functions; add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions; and become familiar with properties of exponents. Students will also be introduced to the basic principles, definitions and logic of geometry.

Tuition: $1200 / year for both English and Math | $600 / year for one or the other.
