Poetry Colloquium | Instructor: Mr. John Niemann
Meets: Mondays 3:15 - 4:45pm
Description: Poetry is an ancient form of human expression that has, like other art forms, fallen on hard times in the modern age. This colloquium is designed to reclaim the fine art of poetry, both by reading a lot of excellent poems and by trying out hand at composing some. What is poetry? Why do poets express themselves in poetry rather than prose? We will encounter various poetry formats, such as sonnets, villanelles, sestinas, free verse and blank verse, from the Psalms to modern works. We will read them carefully, aloud, to understand their aural quality. We will develop the analytical skills necessary to better appreciate poetry. We’ll have a ton of fun.
Tuition: $250 / semester
